River Turtles Add: This group is commonly made up of the river turtles add and terrapins, both of which are called river turtles add and are aquatic or semiaquatic; tortoises, which are strictly terrestrial; and certain river turtles add which are marine. As good pet material does not come from the marine river turtles add, they are not discussed here.Box river turtles add differ from other river turtles add by having a hinged plastron. This makes it possible for the creature completely to enclose its head, feet, and tail so that it looks like an oval box. Man's ruthlessness and carelessness have reduced the number of box river turtles add to the point where they are now rare. Some states have enacted laws which prohibit the possession of these river turtles add. Check state laws before seeking a specimen for a pet. It can be flaked off by using a sharp, thin blade such as a razor blade, which must be used cau¬tiously to avoid cutting the shell. Eyes: Turtles have well-developed eyes with movable eyelids. Their sight is extremely keen. Their ability to distinguish colors approxi¬mates that of man,
On The Other Hand See Small Turtles:Aquatic; frequents ponds, lakes, and quiet streams, es¬pecially quiet, muddy waters; wanders about on land during nesting season; hibernates during winter, probably in muddy bottom of habitat Oviparous; 3-11 eggs deposited May-August Adult pond turtles are a little too large to maintain with comfort in the average-sized terrarium, but make wonderful pets for a home garden. Only small turtles should be used for school specimens. Young are sometimes found among baby turtles sold commercially.Turtles found on land are not difficult to capture. Those that are more or less aquatic are difficult to capture even with the use of a net. However, if one comes upon them on land, and they are far enough away from water, they can usually be picked up by hand. The most interesting turtles are the small, colored creatures which are the young of a variety of species and are usually obtained from pet shops.
