Grooming Preparations: Other Preparations. Grooming preparations in¬clude fragrant Bath products, such as water-softening bubble baths or foaming milk baths, Bath oils to add emollience to the skin, and dust¬ing powders or talc for the body. Deodorants include creams, sprays, liquids, and roll-ons. Products that merely mask odor by the use of antibacterial agents, such as hexachlorophene, are classified as deodorants, while those that check perspiration by astringent action, using aluminum chloride or chlorohydroxide as active ingredients, are called antiperspirants. Depila¬tories include mechanical means of removing un¬wanted hair—pumice stones, razors, and shavers and chemicals, which work by dissolving the keratin substance of the hair shaft. All such details should be well understood beforehand. Advance preparations, in fact, will make all the difference as to whether you do a really expert job of wedding coverage or get only the obvious, superficial shots. Not only your own advance preparations, but those of the wedding planners, are important to your picture story. Keep in touch with the bride's mother (or whoever is actually running the show) as the wedding day nears and shoot pic¬tures of all the preparations. See Also Used Grooming:General Hygiene. The habit of daily used grooming is a good one. Healthy cats usually keep them¬selves clean by constant cleaning or washing with their tongues. Daily use of a comb and brush will help this process, especially in the longhair breeds. Powders like talcum, corn starch, or French chalk can be shaken into the coat before brushing. These powders combine with the natural oil in the hair and act as a good dry cleaner. Regular used grooming will minimize the problems of loose hair in the house and the formation of hair balls, which are masses of matted hair that accumulate in the cat's digestive tract as a result of the animal's licking of its fur.used grooming himself for the 1908 nomination, Hearst ran for mayor of New York City in 1905, fought the Tammany Hall machine single-handed, and nearly won. His popularity was evident, and his star seemed on the rise. But in 1906 he made a deal with the same Tammany organization that he had so recently excoriated and ran for gov¬ernor of New York. He was beaten decisively by Charles Evans Hughes.
On The Other Hand See Foreign Birds Ive:Naturally the out¬door aviary is the ideal situation for breeding birds, but there are many which will breed in smaller cages when provided with proper conditions. Probably the most satisfactory birds for small-cage breeding are some of the foreign birds ive finches.Cats and Birds. There is no question that cats do stalk and kill birds, but cats are an insignif¬icant factor in overall bird mortality. To cite two of a number of biological studies of the stomach contents of cats, only 6 of 50 cats in Wisconsin had eaten birds as their last meal, and birds provided a final repast for only 4% of a group of cats in Oklahoma. Wildlife authori¬ties insist that other birds—jays, for example-kill more birds than do cats. Moreover, cats are themselves the prey of some birds, like the great horned owl.
