For single birds use small cage established commercial bird cage. Cover cage bottom with 2 inches of bird gravel. Place leafless branching limb in cage; arrange branches so that they do not interfere with flight space. Give pet freedom of room; train it to use cage as headquarters only; bird quickly learns this.

Use small cage established, sturdy, well-built animal cage (see Part IV). Fill cage with 12-14 inches of clean, sandy, damp soil; pack down firmly; sand must have body so that burrows, in which pet nests, will not cave in on it; change soil as soon as it becomes dry and pulverized. Protect pets from chilling. Place cage where it is away from drafts but re¬ceives some sunlight. Nest—In the wild, used for sleeping, hiding, rearing of young. Drop small cage established bunches of dry grass and soft plant fibers such as kapok about cage for lining nest.
